Stratford-upon-Avon - Shakespeare's Birth Place

 

Several of our UK friends recommended to go visit Stratford-upon-Avon. Once there we knew why. It's not only full of history about Shakespeare who grew up there, but it is also the cutest English town with pubs from the 16th century, cute little stores and pedestrian only city centers. 

Here is the house where Shakespeare was born in 1564, grew up and lived with his wife Anne Hathaway.

On the other side of town is the "New Place," where Shakespeare bought a large house for his family that consisted of him, his wife and 2 girls (his son died at age 11). The house was unfortunately demolished in 1759. In its place is now a garden with many statues commemorating Shakespeare and his work.

A 10 minute drive away is Anne Hathaway's cottage, where Ann grew up. Shakespeare married Anne when he was 18 and she was 26. They never lived at that house together, but he was for sure a frequent visitor.
