Trip to Denmark and Sweden - two very enticing countries!

We went on a short trip to Denmark and Sweden and loved it. Josh was on a business trip to Copenhagen, and we took the chance to tagalong. A few weeks before the trip Henry and his dad Eugene decided to our delight to join us. 

We arrived on Aug. 28th in Copenhagen and our first stop was Nyhaven, a row of colorful houses by the canal.

After some searching we found quite an excellent Mexican Restaurant.

Inside the Amalienborg Palace we learned a lot 
about King Federik and Queen Mary of Denmark: 
Seems to be a pretty cool King - 
He runs marathons and doesn't mind 
getting sweaty and dirty!

After a bit of a walk we made it to 
Hans Andersen's Little Mermaid



Near the Little Mermaid we found this
 impressive Gefion Fountain 


The Norse goddess Gefion is driving 
a plow pulled by oxens 



Here we are exploring the canals
on a Goboat that we rented for 2 hours. 
It was the slowest boat ride ever! 
Paddle boarders passed us!


A nice and relaxing way to see picturesque Copenhagen. 


Loved all the colorful houses and boats. 


The glorious ending of that day was watching 
brave Sarah and Henry jump into the chilly water. 


Next day: 


Church of our Lady with the Christus and the 12 apostles. 
One of my favorite things to see in Copenhagen. 




The inside of the church was way more impressive than the outside. 


Next: Rosenborg Castle with its flowery garden
- a 400 year old renaissance castle

After that Josh and I ventured to the outside of Copenhagen on a
 1 hour train ride to Helsingor.

Turkey - a fascinating country where Europe meets Asia

With our time in England winding down we decided we better hit our bucket list spots. Turkey is one of them and became one of my very favorite countries to visit. We spent 6 days in Turkey, enough to see what we wanted, but also long enough to know that we will want to come back.  Wednesday 11 June Today we arrived in Istanbul. The view from the plane showed us what we will see almost around every corner: mosques! We landed on the Asian side of Istanbul (there are 2 main airports, about equal distance from Istanbul) and the Uber took us underneath the Bosphorus (the straight between Europe and Asia) to the European side of the city. We spent today in Sulthamet the Old part of the city where our hotel: Sultanhan. That location is ideal as a tourist, in walking distance to the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sofia (a 5 minute walk from each other.) Trip to Andalusia, Spain - Cleaner than even Switzerland!!

Wednesday, April 9th to Monday, April 15 2024 For Spring break we went on a 5 day trip to the southern part of Spain: Andalusia. Spain totally exceeded our expectations! It’s cleaner, safer and more beautiful than we imagined. I have to admit that the cities in Spain are even cleaner than Switzerland!! The Spaniards definitely take great pride in keeping their country spotless! The only downside was that planning this trip was slightly more complicated: For tickets to the palaces and for accommodation a passport number is required.  Renting a car with a US driver's license requires an international driver's license. (UK driver's license works fine). And most of the main sights had to be booked months in advance. The only tickets we could find for Caminito del Rey and the Alhambra were guided tours, which were a bit more expensive, but worthwhile for what we learned on the tours (plus no need to stand in line with guided tours).  First stop: Sevilla We spent 2 nights in Sevi...
